VACAVILLE (KRON) — The Sky Fire northwest of Vacaville is 95 percent contained, Cal Fire officials said on Wednesday.
Flames have consumed about 150 acres. Officials tell KRON 4 that fire crews are working in rugged terrain with the weather conditions not working in their favor. They say the changing winds are creating the biggest weather challenge. Officials say about 80 firefighters are on the fire lines.
The fire broke out around 10:45 a.m. Monday when a vehicle caught fire near Mix Canyon Road and Sky Ranch Lane, according to investigators.
A voluntary evacuation order went into effect as sheriff’s officials went door to door to alert residents about the fire.
In addition to Cal Fire, crews from Vacaville, the Vacaville Fire Prevention District, Dixon, and Suisun City also responded to the fire.
There were no injuries and no structures were threatened, Cal Fire fire prevention specialist Suzie Blankenship said.
Officials say crews hopes to have the fire fully contained by early Thursday morning.
Cal Fire is urging residents to practice fire safety. The agency says residents can get information about wildfire prevention at www.readyforwildfire.org.
