SONOMA COUNTY (BCN) — A Sacramento County man was killed when his Ford F-150 pickup truck collided with an oncoming tractor-trailer near Petaluma this morning.

The Sonoma County coroner’s office identified the driver as 23-year-old Jared Marengo of Fair Oaks.

The pickup was heading west on Adobe Road east of Frates Road in unincorporated Sonoma County at approximately 50 mph when it drifted across double yellow lines directly into the path of an eastbound big-rig around 7:30 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Jonathan Sloat said.

The front left of the tractor-trailer that was hauling bottled wine struck the front left of the Ford pickup. Marengo was extricated from the truck but died while en route to the hospital, Sloat said.

A 47-year-old woman from Vista in San Diego County who was a passenger in the Ford suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Sloat said. The big-rig driver was not injured.

The wine in the big-rig was not damaged and was removed from the truck, Sloat said.

Adobe Road was closed after the crash and is expected to reopen around 3 p.m., he said.
