SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A San Francisco International Airport Duty Manager has confirmed to KRON4 that United Airlines Flight 990, that departed at 3:31 p.m. Monday afternoon, is returning to SFO due to a “mechanical issue.”
The flight was Paris-bound.
United Airlines spokesman Charlie Hobart did confirm that flight UA990 that was en route to Paris is currently returning to SFO due to a mechanical issue with one of the plane’s engines.
No emergency has been declared, and everyone is safe.
The plane is a 787 with approximately 230 people onboard.
According to Hobart, the United Airlines crew is going to pick the “safest course of action for everyone [onboard]” and elected to return to SFO.
United Airlines’ goal is to have the passengers on another flight to Paris by tonight, but that is subject to change, officials said.
The estimated time for landing was 6:10 p.m.
Around 7 p.m. airport personnel said crews were swapping out the aircraft in an effort to get passengers back on their way to Paris.
