SANTA ROSA (BCN) — Santa Rosa police arrested two men on suspicion of burglarizing a north Santa Rosa residence early Thursday.

A Vintage Circle resident called police to report two Hispanic males were loading items from a neighbor’s house into a BMW, Sgt. Kyle Philp said.

A police officer confronted the suspects and they ran back into the house and slammed the front door, Philp said.

Other officers and a K-9 unit arrived and set up a perimeter, Philp said. The homeowners, who were unaware of the burglary, left the house, and officers found stolen property in the backyard of the residence and a broken fence leading to a neighboring yard, Philp said.

The police dog Hoss found and bit one suspect, later identified as Rogelio Martinez-Vasquez, 21, of Santa Rosa, who was hiding under a deck in the neighboring yard, Philp said.

The second suspect, identified as Jose Neri-Martinez, 30, of Santa Rosa, was arrested as he was running from the residence, and he was identified as one of the suspects who was inside the residence, Philp said.

Police found a .45-caliber handgun registered to Neri-Martinez in the yard where Martinez-Vazquez was arrested. Items that were taken from the home were found inside the vehicle associated with the suspects, Philp said.

Both men were arrested for burglary, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and carrying a loaded firearm, Philp said.
