Two in Custody Following South Bay Manhunt

Sunnyvale (KRON) — Two people are now in custody following a manhunt that covered much of the South Bay early Thursday morning.

At 12:22 a.m., San Jose police officers got a call about a vehicle that had been taken at gunpoint near the intersection of Tully Road and Lucretia Avenue.

Just six minutes later, police officers spotted the car on Meridian Avenue, near Willow Street.

The driver of the stolen car led police on a chase on the 280, to the 85 reaching speeds in excess of 100 mile per hour.

The chase continued into Sunnyvale, when the driver and a passenger ran away from the car near the intersection of Remington Court at South Bernardo Avenue.

SJPD was in contact with Sunnyvale police during the chase, keeping them informed of all updates.

Police were able to locate a gun near the abandoned car.

They think it may have been dropped as the duo ran from police.

A K-9 unit led police to a culvert near Stevens Creek.

Police searched the area, locating the two men just after 7 a.m.

Over the past week, several carjackings have been reported in San Jose.

Investigators are trying to determine if those are related to this most recent incident.
