WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says he has spoken to the king of Saudi Arabia, who denies any knowledge of what happened to a Saudi journalist who visited the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul and then disappeared and is feared dead.
Trump tweets, “Just spoke to the King of Saudi Arabia who denies any knowledge of whatever may have happened ‘to our Saudi Arabian citizen.'”
Trump says he’s dispatching Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (pahm-PAY’-oh) to meet with the king of Saudi Arabia to try to find out what happened to missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Pompeo is expected to go to Riyadh and later visit Turkey.
Turkish officials say they fear a Saudi hit team killed and dismembered the Washington Post contributor.
Trump said Monday the Saudis told him they’re working closely with Turkey to find an answer.
