Trump advises DOJ to look into Oakland mayor for ‘obstruction of justice’

President Donald Trump on Wednesday addressed the controversy surrounding Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf warning the public of large-scale, impending raids by immigration agents in the San Francisco Bay Area.

“Many of these were illegals, they were criminals… and she informed, and they all fled, or most of them fled. That whole operation that took a long time to put together, I mean you talk about obstruction of justice. I would recommend that you look into obstruction of justice for the mayor of Oakland, California,” Trump said during a roundtable discussion on California as a sanctuary state.

“She advises thousands of people, ‘Get out the law enforcement is coming,’ and you worked on that long and hard, and you got there there and there were very few people there,” Trump said.

“To me, that’s obstruction of justice, and perhaps the Department of Justice can look into that, with respect to the mayor,” Trump said.

According to a top immigration official, about 800 people living illegally in Northern California were able to avoid arrest because of the warning Schaaf posted on Twitter.
