SAN JOSE (KRON) — A speeding motorist who crashed through the front of a San Jose home Monday night was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.

The incident happened at around 10:55 p.m. at a residence located at 706 South Jackson Avenue in East San Jose.

According to police, a truck exiting the Interstate 680 Jackson Avenue off-ramp at high speed crashed through the front yard of the home, careened off a parked vehicle, then crashed through the front of the house.

Neighbors who heard the crash ran to the scene and held the driver until police arrived. The driver was arrested for suspicion of DUI.

There were no reported injuries.

The homeowner said his home has been hit numerous times and blames speeding drivers for driving through the intersection and plowing through his property.

“We’ve been hit 19 times, four have made it into the house,” said Ray Minter.

Minter says he’s lived at the residence for 56 years and doesn’t intend to move. He’s constructed barriers to protect his home, including burying 11 foot posts into his yard using cement and steel.

A nearby resident said that the intersection is prone to vehicle collisions, including one in which a pedestrian was struck and killed a few weeks ago.

“Accidents like this always happen,” said Favian, a neighbor who lives behind the damaged home. “We live right off the freeway.”

“Every three months, there’s always something happening. Regardless, if it’s someone getting hit or a house getting struck. But yes, it does happen a lot.”
