(KRON) In its 7th installment, Triple Ho has become a staple Winter show in the Bay Area. The SAP Center in San Jose was the venue that hosted the SOLD-OUT show with a line-up that included: Zara Larsson, Kalin White, Hailee Stenfield, Meghan Trainor, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, and Justin Bieber.

Bay Area DJ J Espinosa was in charge of warming up the crowd in between sets. Espinosa is known for incorporating tons of Bay Area music into his sets, this was well received by fans who sang and danced to each tune (E-40, Mac Dre, Drake and others.) He maintained the crowd electrified while they waited for the next artist.

Backstreet Boys were the bonafide stars of the night; they are after all one of the best boybands of the late 90’s and early 2000’s. It is almost impossible to believe that all of them are well into their late 30’s and mid 40’s ( Kevin Richardson is 45 years old.) Their presence on stage, and perfectly choreographed dance moves are ones that younger guys only dream of. Nick, A.J, Kevin, Howie and Brian delighted screaming fans with some of their best songs “I want it that way,” “Incomplete,” “Everybody” were among the tunes that were part of their setlist.

Having them on them on the bill was no coincidence, the band signed a lucrative ‘Larger Than Life’ Vegas residency at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino set to begin in March 2017. While Backstreet Boys’ set was short, it was sweet, and it certainly intrigued concert-goers to what their Vegas residency is going to be like. Backstreet Boys are following in the footsteps of fellow 90s sensations, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, and Britney Spears.

The Princess of Pop, Britney Spears followed the Backstreet Boys at the Triple Ho Show. Spears has not toured the Bay Area since her Femme Fatale tour landed at the SAP Center back in 2011. Spears has been hard at work with her successful Vegas residency, and she has also been hard at working on her fitness. The mother of two (who just recently turned 35) is probably in the best shape since she was in her 20s. Her small waist, toned legs, and defined arms were seen from the suede knee-high boots, daisy dukes, and bustier that she was wearing.

It was surprising that not as many people seemed particularly interested in her set, few people sang along, though there was plenty of phones recording her performance (footage from it is all over social media.) It is notable to mention that Spears confused the name of the show by calling it “Jingle Ball” instead of “Triple Ho.” The hiccup occurred not once, but twice. She had just performed the day prior in LA at Jingle Ball. Apparently, someone from her camp forgot to fill her that she was in the Bay Area at an entirely different show. Right as she was wrapping up her set, two of the DJs from the radio station that sponsored the show surprised Spears with a birthday cake, and a happy birthday sing-along from the crowd. She gave a quick almost robotic thanks before rushing off the stage. The silly and cheery Spears was not the one we saw the night of the show.

The star of the evening was supposed to be Canadian “heart-throb” Justin Bieber, on this night at the Triple Ho Show, he failed to wow us (despite the screams of his teenage fans.) Bieber showed up to perform roughly 50 minutes late, which was a shame as many of his young fans succumbed to their tiredness and fell asleep on the chairs (many of them wearing shirts with the singer’s face on it.)

The Canadian singer has antagonized his fame, by going as far as discarding “meet-and-greets” from his tour, punching fans, and even calling Instagram “hell.” His attitude during the show proved this to be true; he seemed annoyed to be there, referred to the artists part of the night’s show as “how were the other people before me?” Bieber appeared to have forgotten that Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears were the pop sensations that paved the way for teeny-boppers act like him.

Despite the dull performance by Bieber, the overall line-up of the Triple Ho Show was one of the radio station’s best, surpassing even the competitor’s Jingle Ball, and two other Winter shows scheduled for later this month.
