SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — There are 20-minute BART delays at San Francisco stations in the East Bay directions due to an equipment problem at 16th Street Station in San Francisco.

On Friday morning at 8:52 a.m. a BART train was pulling into the 16th Street Station and braked on in propulsion.

The train breaks were engaged while the train was in motion which caused smoke.

A passenger on board activated one emergency door and exited the train.

The train is now out of service as crews are working to dissipate the smoke.

It is a relatively common occurrence that smoke resulted from this situation as the activation of the breaks while the train moving causes friction and smoke, according to BART’s communication spokesperson, Jim Allison.

Crews are working to clear this sitation.
