Traffic alert: San Mateo Bridge closed for the weekend

SAN MATEO (KRON) — Bay Area motorists who use the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge should look for alternate routes, with the bridge closed all weekend long.

Caltrans closed the bridge in both directions for resurfacing work.

The closure started at 10 p.m. Friday and the bridge won’t reopen until 5 a.m. Monday – Memorial Day, according to Caltrans.

During the closure, Caltrans officials are asking people to be patient and use alternative routes to get around the bay. Those include the Dumbarton Bridge, the Bay Bridge, and the Highway 237.

Once the closure of the Highway 92 is in effect, all eastbound drivers will be forced to exit at Foster City Boulevard and westbound drivers, Clawiter Road.

According to Caltrans officials, the on-ramps from Edgewater Boulevard and Metro Center Boulevard in the eastbound direction in Foster City will be closed. In the westbound direction in Hayward, the on-ramps from Industrial Boulevard and Clawiter Road will also be closed.

Caltrans officials said changeable message signs have been posted throughout the Bay Area to notify motorists of the upcoming closures.
