Part of Interstate 80 in Crocket is shut down after a big-rig crashed and caught fire Friday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.
The crash was first reported at 1:21 a.m. at the Pomona St. off-ramp on eastbound 80 before the Carquinez Bridge.
CHP says the big-rig flipped over and flames erupted. At one point the truck was fully engulfed in fire.
The driver was airlifted to the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
A Traffic Alert was issued at 1:30 a.m. All but one lane remains closed.
A second crash happened in the back up created from this accident.
It happened around 3:55 a.m., killing at least one person, according to CHP.
Traffic is being diverted off the freeway before the scene.
Consider taking Cummings Skyway to San Pablo Ave. instead. From here, you can get back on EB 80 at the Pomona St. on-ramp. You can also take the skyway all the way to Crockett Blvd., or use the Benicia Bridge as an alternate.
CHP estimates the scene will clear around 10:00 a.m.
