The California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced on Thursday a delay in opening the recreational Dungeness crab fishing season for the coast north of Humboldt County.
The reason is unhealthy levels of domoic acid.
That’s the same toxin attributed to warming ocean waters that destroyed the 2015-16 season.
As of right now, the delay does not affect the Bay Area, and the season is still set to open Nov. 3.
Officials say they’ll continue to test crabs up to and beyond the commercial season opening on Nov. 15.
