SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge is set to get more expensive.

The Marin Independent Journal reports that tolls are going up by a quarter starting on Wednesday. Electronic FasTrak holders will pay $6. The toll will be $7 for other drivers.

The price increase is part of a five-year plan that will see the FasTrak toll rise to $7 by 2018. Other drivers will pay $8.

Bridge officials say the increases are needed in part to meet the costs of a new movable median barrier and capital needs for the bridge.

The five-year toll plan will raise $138 million. The district still has a projected five-year deficit of $33 million.

All tolls on the bridge are now collected electronically.
