Toddler survives drowning after 101 minutes of CPR

San Francisco (KRON)  In what doctors are calling an extraordinarily rare case of survival, a 22-month-old Pennsylvania boy whose body was pulled from an icy creek was brought back to life after an hour and 41 minutes of CPR.

Gardell Martin came home from the hospital on Sunday, and doctors say he has made a full recovery.

Gardell was playing with his two brothers on March 11 when he fell into the stream running through their five-acre property near Mifflinburg. A neighbor found him nearly a quarter-mile downstream.

Dr. Frank Maffei (mah-FAY’) of Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Danville said Thursday the little boy was brought back to life by a team of about 50 people. He says Gardell’s recovery is stunning.

His grateful mother, Rose Martin, calls it “an act of God.”
