THORTON, Colo. (KRON) — Police are looking for answers from the mother of a 2-year-old who was left in a freezing car overnight in Colorado.
Police found the toddler inside of a car in a parking lot. Investigators say the child spent at least 7 hours inside the cold car and suffered from frostbite and hypothermia.
The mother, Nicole Carmon, is “having problems apparently and keeps changing her story,” police said.
Carmon told police she was in an accident and left her car overnight. But investigators say they cannot find any evidence of an accident and Carmon had previous infractions including a DUI.
Officials say the bone-chilling cold in Colorado is dangerous for anyone outside, and the consequences of hypothermia can devastating.
“Hypothermia in extreme cases can be deadly where as frostbite, there can be dire consequences, such as losing the tip of your nose but generally it’s not going to be life-threatening,” said Dr. Jared Scott of the Swedish Medical Center.
A judge will decide what kind of consequences the toddler’s mom could face.CNN Newsource contributed to this report
