(WTVO) — A replica of the Titanic is poised to set sail in 2022 and resume the Southampton to New York route of its infamous predecessor.
The Blue Star Line announced that the controversial project, Titanic II, would resume following financial problems that halted the enterprise, Cruise Arabia & Africa reports.
The ship will have the “the same interiors and cabin layout as the original vessel, while integrating modern safety procedures, navigation methods, and 21st-century technology,” said Clive Palmer, chairman of Blue Star Line.
The new ship will set sail from Dubai to Southampton and then on to New York.
Its namesake famously sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912 after hitting an iceberg.
