Three injured in Gilroy utility pole crash

Gilroy police say the driver of a car that crashed into a power pole on Tuesday afternoon has died.

Police identified the driver as 27-year-old Mark Pierce of Gilroy.

GILROY (KRON) — An early morning crash in Gilroy Tuesday injured three after their car ran into a utility pole.

Emergency crews responded at 12:27 p.m. to a report of a vehicle that crashed into a utility pole and overturned in the area of Leavesley Road east of Arroyo Circle.

The driver and two passengers were reportedly ejected from the car during the crash, police said.

Emergency personnel found the driver suffering from major trauma, without a pulse and not breathing, police said.

Emergency crews were able to revive the driver who was then transported to a trauma center.

One passenger suffered moderate injuries that were not considered life threatening, and another passenger suffered minor injuries, police said.

The crash is believed to have occurred when the driver was travelling west on Leavesley road and lost control of the vehicle, striking the power pole.

Police are still investigating.
