Police are investigating a possible threat at Dublin High School.
The school district says someone threatened to harm students there next Monday.
It is homecoming weekend, and the school district is taking this threat seriously.
In a note sent to parents and posted on the Dublin School District website, the district says that “an anonymous threat has been found at Dublin High School, indicating an intention to harm students on Oct. 1.”
On Friday, the school district told KRON4 they have no reason to believe the threat is credible but they aren’t taking any chances. School officials reached out to the Dublin Police Department and officers were on campus Friday.
The district also says that additional police presence will continue through at least Monday.
Dublin police are investigating, but so far, it’s unknown who made the threat or why.
On campus Friday, classes went on as usual. Parents waiting to pick up their kids after school said they had heard about the threat.
Claire Lucero says the note was alarming.
“I thought it was kind of scary,” Lucero said.
Kimberly Mentink has a daughter at Dublin High.
She says they sat down and talked about the threat on Friday morning.
“We talked about that there was a threat made about possible harm,” Mentink said. “To keep your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings. If you see something unusual, say something about it.”
Both Lucero and Mentink say that while it’s unlikely that the threat is real, the school and authorities have to act as if it is.
“We have to give everything that comes in like this credibility,” Mentink said. “We have to take it seriously.”
