Thousands evacuated after bomb threat in Santa Rosa

SANTA ROSA (KRON) — Over one thousand students in Santa Rosa were evacuated this morning, after reports of a bomb threat.

According to Cardinal Newman High School Principal Graham Rutherford, someone called the school at 10:30 a.m and 10:40 a.m regarding a bomb on campus. Due to safety concerns, Rutherford said campus officials evacuated staff and students around 10:45 a.m.

Rutherford said the school made a call to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office to report the initial bomb threat. He said neither he, nor the bomb threat caller recognized eachother’s voices, and he believes the call was not from a student.

Cardinal Newman High School officials immediately contacted parents, and most students were picked up before 1:20 p.m.

Two other schools in the area, Roseland Collegiate Prep and Saint Rose Catholic School, were also evacuated.

Amy Jones-Kerr, the Superintendent of Roseland Public Schools, said that officials searched the Cardinal Newman High and did not find a bomb. The campus was declared clear at around 1:30 p.m.
