SANTA CLARA (KRON) — A third-party dig-in caused an outage that impacted more than 3,000 customers in southwest Santa Clara on Thursday morning.
The outage that initially affected 3,305 customers began shortly after 10:00 a.m., according to Silicon Valley Power, Santa Clara’s electrical provider.
The outage was in an area west of Lawrence Expressway and El Camino Real, according to utility spokesperson Larry Owens.
As of 10:50 a.m., power was restored to all by 268 customers, who were in an area that included El Camino Real, Lillick Drive and Halford Avenue.
All customers were expected to have power back around 12:00 p.m., except for one who was directly impacted by the outage.
The outage was caused by a third-party crew that dug into the utility’s underground cable at El Camino Real and Halford Avenue.
Once power is restored to most customers, crews will assess the damage to make repairs, according to Owens.Bay City News contributed to this report.
