A Tesla vehicle slammed into a San Jose fire truck, that was responding to a separate crash on Highway 101 early Saturday morning.
At around 1:00 a.m., firefighters were headed southbound near Bailey when the Tesla struck them from behind.
San Jose Fire Fighters Local 230 wrote on Twitter “For the 2nd time in recent months SJ FF’s escaped serious injury as a @teslamotors “Zero Emissions” vehicle slammed into the back of a #SJFD FireEngine.”

Photos posted on the account claims the Tesla was traveling at 70 MPH and was on auto mode, though the auto braking system wasn’t engaged, the San Jose Fire Department is working to verify those allegations.
San Jose Fire Chief David said his department is interested in learning more about vehicles that are able to go into auto mode and how firefighters can quickly mitigate those emergencies.
