REDWOOD CITY (KRON)—One passenger was killed in a solo car crash in Redwood City Thursday afternoon after the car went down an embankment and crashed into two trees.

The California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a smoking car with someone trapped inside a car on Skyline Blvd near Page Mill Road around 2:10 p.m.

Officers found the 17-year-old driver was speeding on Skyline Blvd when he crashed down an embankment, the CHP said,

The car hit two trees while driving away from the road, the CHP said.

A 19-year-old passenger from San Martin was killed and pronounced dead at the scene.

Another 19-year-old passenger in the back seat has major injuries and was taken to Stanford Hospital.

The 17-year-old driver has minor injuries.

Skyline Drive was shut down as crews were cleaning up the crash.
