An Orinda house fire takes the life of one person and leaves others injured, including a firefighter, on Sunday morning.

Around 4 a.m. the Moraga-Orinda Fire District was notified of the fire burning at 524 Moraga Way.

Officials say that the moment the first fire engine arrived, they immediately went in to rescue the residence.

Authorities say the home had a tile roof which prevented the heat from escaping as the fire burned.

Following the fire, authorities say two residents are suffering from second-degree burns.

A firefighter who was helping get the residents out of the house also suffered burn injuries and taken to John Muir Health Center to be treated.

The girl who died was 16-years-old but has not yet been identified.

The single-family home caught fire for reasons that are still unknown, according to officials.

Firefighters say that the house continues to burn.

Moraga-Orinda Fire District released a statement saying, “Moraga Way will be closed between Ivy Drive and Coral Drive until at least noon” on Sunday.

The fire department will release more information at a later time.
