RICHMOND (KRON) — Two more people were injured during a shooting on Interstate Highway 80, which also wounded a 2-year-old Monday evening in Richmond, according to California Highway Patrol officers.
A female teenager and a male in his 20s were dropped off at a hospital suffering from gunshots wounds shortly after the shooting, CHP officials said.
Both victims had injuries not considered life-threatening.
Investigators believe the two victims at the hospital were the intended targets, according to CHP officials.
The shooting was first reported at 7:45 p.m. in the highway’s eastbound lanes, near Richmond Parkway.
When officers arrived, they found a driver who had pulled their vehicle off the highway and into a nearby gas station. The driver said their vehicle had been struck by gunfire at least once while on the highway, according to CHP officials.
A 2-year-old inside the car was injured by broken glass and was treated at the scene.
Police believe the driver of the vehicle with the toddler was an innocent passing motorist, CHP officials said.
This is the fifth I-80 shooting that has occurred in recent months.
No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact CHP investigators at (707) 551-4100.
