Teen arrested after breaking into Palo Alto home, asking for WiFi password

Palo Alto police arrested a teen who allegedly entered an occupied home and woke up a sleeping couple to ask for their WiFi password.

According to police, the 17-year-old suspect entered a home in the area of East Charleston and Middlefield Roads just after midnight and woke up a couple in their sixties sleeping their bedroom.

The victim later reported to police he had shoved the suspect out of his home after the suspect had woken him up and asked for the WiFi network password.

Police say the victim pushed him down the hallway and out the front door of the house before calling police.

The suspect, who is also connected to a nearby bicycle theft that happened the same night, was later apprehended.

Police determined that the suspect had entered the home by cutting a screen covering an open window in the side yard.

The suspect was arrested for residential burglary, prowling, and providing false information to an officer.
