Teen accused of fatally stabbing 9-year-old boy in Discovery Bay back in court

DISCOVERY BAY (KRON) — The teen accused of fatally stabbing a 9-year-old boy in Discovery Bay was back in court Tuesday.

Eighteen-year-old William Shultz made a court appearance for his preliminary hearing. Police said Shultz stabbed his best friend’s little brother, Jordon Almgren, in his sleep back in April.

Shortly before the murder, Shultz was evaluated for mental health issues at a Martinez hospital. In September, doctors declared the teen competent to stand trial.

Shultz confessed to the crime in an interview with a media outlet a day after the boy was found dead, saying he killed the boy “to see what it felt like.” He also mentioned in that interview he thought the world was coming to an end.

Shultz will be back in court Dec. 15.
