SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — We keep hearing about self-driving cars and autonomous vehicles.
We know this is our future. And now, for the first time, a car that is on the market, and on the road, will stay in its lane, steer, control speed, and brake all on its own.
It is a self-driving car. Recently, Tesla pushed out an over the air software update to their Model S cars adding a new autopilot feature.
Tesla’s Alexis Georgeson gives Gabe Slate a look at how the new Summon feature works to let people remotely summon their car to them.
It also will park autonomously in and out of parking spaces and garages to help you with that tight squeeze.
“It has automatic emergency braking,” Georgeson said. “It has side collision avoidance to avoid that car coming in or it would have applied the breaks if it needed to…avoid an accident.”
For now, it’s intended mostly for highway driving. It requires clear lane markings.
And it’s not designed for making tight turns in a city on its own.
