The new iPhones hit the shelves at 8 a.m. on Friday morning.
There are three models to choose from: The $1,000 XS, the big screen $1,100 XS Max, and the cheaper XR.
So, are they worth the money? Should you upgrade? Or wait?
When KRON4 Tech Reporter Gabe Slate heard the iPhone XS Max was 6.5 inches, I thought it would be too big, like why not just carry around an iPad Mini?
But once it was in the hand, Gabe took that back.
Because the display takes up the entire front side of the XS Max, all the way to the edges, it’s actually the same size as the iPhone Plus but you get more screen.
The XS Max is also lighter and thinner.
So, if you’re an iPhone Plus person, you will like the new XS Max.
So, what’s the difference between the thousand-dollar 5.8-inch iPhone XS and the $1,100 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max?
Just screen size and the hundred-dollar difference.
If you have the existing iPhone X should you upgrade to a newer XS? I would say no, you don’t need to unless you really want a bigger screen.
The new things in the XS series are good things, but nothing game changing. The XS has a better camera, a faster processor, it’s more waterproof, better battery, and it’s just a basic upgrade to the X.
If you have an iPhone 7 or older, and you have the money, I would say it’s time to upgrade to the XS line. Compared to the older models it’s come a long way, it’s a lot faster, and it has a much better camera.
Now, what about that cheaper 6.1-inch iPhone 10R that’s coming out in October?
Well, it’s cheaper because it has an LCD screen instead of the higher quality OLED display on the XS Max, and the casing of the XR is aluminum instead of stainless steel.
The XS line comes in the traditional silver, gold, and space gray and the XR comes in six funky colors. Those are the only major differences–and the price.
The XR will be $749.
Unless you have to have the fanciest iPhone with the biggest and best display, Gabe would say wait for the XR to come out and save a few hundred dollars.
