Tech Report: iPhone 6S pre-orders

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Pre-orders for the new iPhone 6S, and 6S plus begin Friday at midnight.

AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-mobile will be offering the new phones. Tech Reporter Gabe Slate breaks down what the carriers are charging for the new devices and who has the best deals.

The full retail price of the 6S starts at $650 and goes up for models with more storage. The full retail price of the 6S plus starts at $750 and goes up from there.

You can just buy them outright and be done with it. But that’s expensive. So, here’s your options.

AT&T is still offering the traditional 2-year contract plans, which offer the iPhone 6S starting at $200 and 6S plus starting at $300. The other carriers are going with a monthly pay-off plan or leasing type plan.

Sprint has their no contract iPhone Forever plan. Starting at $22 a month, you can get a new iPhone, and whenever you want, you can upgrade to a newer phone. No contract.

Right now, they are offering this plan for only $15 a month if you trade in an old smartphone. So, this Sprint offer is the cheapest way into a new iPhone.

T-Mobile is offering their no contract Jump! On Demand plan which offers a 6S for $20 a month or a 6S plus for $24 a month. You pay this for 18 months, and then, you own the phone.

And with this plan, you can upgrade to a newer phone whenever you want.

Verizon is offering the 6S for $24.08 a month or $31.24 month for the 6S plus. You pay this for 24 months, and then, you own the phone.

And for the first time ever, Apple is offering its own monthly leasing payment plan. You can lease an unlocked phone from them that will work with any of the carriers.

The 6S starts at $32.41 a month and the 6S plus starts at $36.58. You pay this every month forever, and every year, you can walk into an Apple Store and upgrade to the latest iPhone.

This Apple plan also comes with Apple Care, which is their warranty and tech support program, which normally costs $130.
