SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The FBI is entering the tech world, offering a new app called the FBI Child ID.

The first 48 hours that a child goes missing are crucial. The app helps parents take action immediately.

The app stores all of the digital information that authorities need about missing child and helps parents get that information into the right hands immediately.

After installing the app, parents add a child’s profile, pulling pictures from their phone’s photo library. The app also records all of the important descriptive information about a child.

If the unthinkable does happen, parents can share the information with authorities using a special tab on the app. The information can also be emailed to authorities as well.

The app also includes tips on keeping children safe, along with specific guidance on what to do in the first and second 24 hours that a child goes missing.
