SWAT team evacuates about 20 people in search for robbery suspect

MORGAN HILL (KRON/BCN) — A SWAT team is trying to draw out a robbery suspect at an apartment complex in Morgan Hill Saturday night, police said.

The robbery occurred at about 11 a.m. at the Game Stop store at 1057 Cochrane Road, police and a store employee said.

Two male suspects entered the store, one with a gun, and ordered the two employees into a storage room, Sgt. Carlos Guerrero said. About that time, four customers came in, including a child, and the suspects ordered them into the storage room too, Guerrero said.

He said the suspects stole some of the customers’ personal belongings, such as wallets and cellphones, and ordered one employee to open the cash register.

The suspects took cash and some expensive game consoles and left the store, Guerrero said. A witness saw the suspects leaving in a vehicle and got a license plate number, leading police to the apartment complex, he said.

Officers were waiting for the suspects at the complex and tried to stop one of them who drove up in a vehicle matching the description of the one used in the robbery, Guerrero said. The suspect ran from the vehicle and officers believe he is hiding in an apartment, he said.

The SWAT team evacuated about 20 people from the complex earlier Saturday, police said. The Red Cross is assisting the residents, Guerrero said.
