CONCORD (KRON) — Those aggressive bees in Concord that killed two dogs and stung several others are not Africanized killer bees, according to DNA tests done by the state department of food and agriculture.
Officials tested seven bees in the hive and found they are just regular honey bees. You may remember the department removed the hive from a beekeeper’s property on May 14.
The bees also attacked a mail carrier and a homeowner in the 3800 block of Hitchcock Drive , sending them to the hospital.
Food and Agriculture spokesman Steve Lyle said the department’s Plant Pest Diagnostics Center tested seven bees provided by Contra Costa County and found them to be European honey bees.Bay City News contributed to this report.
