Investigators were at the U.S. Post Office on Rollins Road in Burlingame Friday.
Out of thousands of packages scanned at the facility, one deemed suspicious intended for liberal billionaire Tom Steyer.
“I just want to thank the police and post office for doing such a great job,” Steyer said. “I think they don’t always get the recognition they deserve. They kept everyone safe and apprehended the suspect in record time. I think they did a fantastic job actually.”
Explosive technicians combed the area for much of Friday afternoon.
The FBI took the suspicious package to the San Francisco Police Department’s firing range at SFO where it was deemed safe and sent to a lab for forensic testing.
This comes in similar fashion linking the packages addressed to prominent Democrats and others this week.
In Sacramento, another suspicious package intercepted Friday addressed to Senator Kamala Harris.
“I am thankful to law enforcement and the postal service folks for being so professional and diligent,” Senator Harris said. “And thankfully nobody was hurt, that’s my first priority.”
After days of tension and fear that spread coast to coast, finally, a break on this case.
Authorities arrested a man Friday in Florida in connection with those mailings.
“I think it will be resolved sooner or later though,” former FBI agent Rick Smith said.
Smith explains mail handling protocols for high profile people ensures the packages with the device would not get close enough to put them in danger.
“The protocol followed by each of the mail rooms, for instance, all these are screened at a different mail site,” Smith said.
The US Postal Service is urging everyone to be cautious and on the lookout as the FBI says there could be more suspicious packages out there.
