FREMONT (BCN) — A 23-year-old Oakland man and a 16-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of committing four armed robberies in Fremont on Thursday and also are suspects in robberies in at least four other cities, police said.

Daray Mose and the juvenile were arrested on Thursday in connection with a string of four armed street robberies in the central and north areas of Fremont between 1:10 p.m. and 2:24 p.m. that day, according to

police.

In most of the incidents, police said, the victim was walking or standing on a sidewalk when a white mini-van drove up and a suspect armed with a handgun got out of the sliding door and demanded wallets and cell

phones.

Shortly after the fourth incident, a Fremont patrol officer spotted a white van similar to what had been described by witnesses in the Northgate area, near Darwin Drive and Fremont Boulevard.

Officers attempted to stop the van but the suspects’ vehicle failed to yield and a short pursuit was initiated, police said.

The van traveled through residential streets and turned onto Platt River Place, where it crashed into a parked car.

The juvenile, who was a passenger in the van, remained at the scene and was safely detained but Mose, who had been driving, fled on foot and immediately jumped a fence, according to police.

Multiple patrol officers, detectives, officers from the Newark Police Department and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene and set up a perimeter to search for Mose, police said.

After about two hours of searching, officers located Mose at an abandoned house on Potomac River Place, east of Platt River Place, according to police.

Officers who searched the van found items that had been stolen in the armed robberies as well as a loaded firearm that had been used during the incidents, police said.

While the search was taking place, officers learned East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Hayward and Newark all had similar incidents in their cities, just prior to the Fremont incidents, police said.

A total of nine armed robberies are being investigated as possibly being connected between the five agencies, according to police.

Because the investigation remains active, Fremont police said they aren’t releasing a booking photo of Mose at this time.

Police said the 16-year-old boy was booked into Alameda County Juvenile Hall on four counts of robbery and four counts of using a loaded firearm during the commission of a felony.

They said Mose was booked into Santa Rita Jail, where he is being held without bail because he allegedly violated his parole, on four counts of robbery, four counts of using a loaded firearm during the commission of a felony, felony evasion, residential burglary and outstanding parole warrants which list him as being armed and dangerous.

Police said a cellphone was taken from a man near a parked vehicle in the 4400 block of Margery Drive at about 1:10 p.m. on Thursday in the first incident.

In the second incident, a man was standing near his garbage can along the curb in the 4300 block of Gibraltar Drive in front of his home at about 1:55 p.m. when a van pulled up next to him and a suspect got out,

pointed a gun at him and demanded money, according to police.

The victim didn’t give the suspect money and instead began to run away southbound on Gibraltar Drive but the suspect continued to follow him while still pointing the gun at him, police said.

But the suspect soon stopped chasing the victim and returned to the van, where it fled eastbound on Nicolet Avenue, according to police.

In the third incident, a suspect took a hard shell motorcycle backpack from a woman in the 35600 block of Woodbridge Place at about 2:10 p.m., police said.

In the fourth incident, an armed suspect took money and a cellphone from a man who was with his wife in front of their house in the 3700 block of Silverlock Road at about 2:20 p.m., according to police. The suspects then drove away eastbound on Silverlock Road, police
