PORTLAND, Ore. (AP/KRON) – Deputies in Portland, Oregon responded to a possible home invasion, but the intruder they found wasn’t alive or a person.
It was a robotic vacuum cleaner.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports a house sitter in Cedar Hills called 911 Monday, saying someone was inside the bathroom.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says deputies entered the home and ordered the burglar out, but nothing happened.
Deputies then opened the bathroom door with guns drawn and discovered the automatic vacuum cleaner.
Sgt. Danny DiPietro says this encounter was his first “Roomba burglar” in 13 years on the job.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office released body camera footage and 911 recordings Wednesday night from the ordeal.
The camera footage shows deputies inside the home with their guns drawn, approaching the bathroom, where the believe an intruder is hauled inside.
On the dispatch audio, the caller told police they could see a shadow moving around, but that the bathroom door was locked.
Once inside the home, police can be heard yelling out commands to the suspected “intruder,” but received no response.
At the end of the dispatch recording, a deputy can be heard saying the “intruder” was only a robot vacuume cleaner.
