Suspected gang member arrested with stolen firearm in Santa Rosa

SANTA ROSA (KRON) — An alleged gang member was arrested early Saturday after police found illegal drugs and a stolen gun in a Santa Rosa motel room, according to Santa Rosa police.

Just after midnight Saturday, police officers responded to a call of unwanted guests at the Motel 6 at 3145 Cleveland Ave. in Santa Rosa, police said.

When the officers arrived, the motel’s management requested assistance with removing several unwanted guests from a room and off the motel property, according to police. The management advised police, in violation of motel policy, the unwanted guests were not registered to the room, said police.

Apparently, motel management made numerous attempts to get the occupants to leave, but the guests failed to comply, said police.

Motel management apparently told police they suspected a male subject to be a gang member based on the tattoo on his face and the numerous tattoos on his arms, police said. Management was also concerned, according to police, for the safety of their security officer who was attempting to vacate the unwanted guests.

As officers were checking the room, they found what they suspected to be narcotics on the table, according to police, but none of the guests admitted to owning the narcotics.

A search of the room led police to find additional illegal narcotics and a loaded, stolen semi-automatic handgun, according to police.

Police arrested the suspected gang member, identified as 19-year-old Antonio Resendez of Healdsburg, on suspicion of possession of a firearm, receiving and possessing stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and participating in a criminal street gang.

The Santa Rosa police said they encourage anyone who witnesses gang activity to call the department at 707-528-5222. Anonymous messages about gang activity can be left at 707-543-GANG (4264).
