SONOMA COUNTY (BCN) — Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man in Sonoma County Wednesday night after he allegedly was caught driving under the influence of alcohol and crashed into a tree.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies witnessed a gold Chevrolet Tahoe traveling at a high rate of speed on Fulton Road south of River Road around 9 p.m.
Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop for the excessive speed, however the vehicle continued to accelerate and began making erratic movements believed to be that of an intoxicated driver.
The vehicle failed to stop even after deputies turned on their sirens and vehicle lights, and eventually the driver lost control and crashed into a tree in front of an abandoned residence in Larkfield.
The driver, 25-year-old Cristobal Castillo of Santa Rosa, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident.
Deputies said he appeared to have no injuries, however was taken to a local hospital for precautionary measures.
Castillo was arrested and booked on suspicion of evading arrest while operating a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol and violation of his current probation.
The incident forced the temporary closure of Old Redwood Highway between Ascot Drive and Wikiup Drive in Larkfield for about three hours.
