Police have identified the man arrested in Wednesday’s deadly hit-and-run that left multiple people injured in San Francisco as Mark Dennis, 33.
Dennis has been booked into San Francisco County Jail for Homicide, four counts of Attempted Homicide, and five counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, according to police.
One person was killed and four others were injured when an altercation escalated to a hit-and-run at around 10:24 a.m. near Illinois and 24th Street.
The man who died after the collision was identified as 34-year-old Eliseo Lopez.
Witnesses at the scene say a man driving a white van got into an argument with pedestrians and started swinging an ax.
One of the pedestrians took out a belt and got into a scuffle with the ax-wielding man, according to the witness.
The man with the hatchet got back into the van then ran down the pedestrians, the witness says.
The suspect fled the scene and was later apprehended by police.
Of the four victims who survived being run over, two remain at the hospital. One person is in critical condition, the other in serious condition.
Two other victims were released Wednesday night, according to San Francisco General Hospital.
A booking photo of Dennis has not yet been released.
