SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A suspect arrested after a brief pursuit on the Bay Bridge Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers tried to stop a Chevrolet for a carpool violation at the bridge’s toll plaza but the driver sped away, CHP officials said.

After crossing the eastern span, the Chevy spun out near the Yerba Buena tunnel and the driver then fled on foot. Officers gave chase and were able to take him into custody shortly afterward, according to the CHP.

The suspect, 38-year-old Oakland resident Marvin Gross, said he ran from police because he didn’t want his car towed.

Gross was arrested for evading the police, driving with a suspended license, and the toll plaza violation.

Gross’s car was towed following his arrest.

No other information about the incident was immediately available.
