The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a deadly “critical incident” in Millbrae on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened at around 1 p.m. in the 1300 block of El Camino Real. Deputies were investigating a man running in-and-out of traffic.
The deputy got out of his car to engage with the suspect, but the man assaulted the officer, deputies said.
After the deputy called for backup, the man was taken into custody. The deputy was rushed to the hospital and treated for his injuries.
The suspect was also taken to the hospital where he died, sheriff’s deputies said.
This was not a shooting, deputies said.
The investigation is ongoing.
