SAN RAFAEL (BCN) — San Rafael police on Sunday arrested a suspect in a gang-related shooting that occurred nearly two years ago.
Police received a call around 2:30 p.m. that the suspect, Jose Luis Gramajo, 23, of San Rafael, was seen in the city’s Canal neighborhood.
Gramajo was wanted for the attempted murder of a San Rafael man on Sept. 25, 2014, in the area of 71 Novato St. An argument between Gramajo and the victim escalated to a physical fight and the victim fled by getting into the back seat of a vehicle, police said.
Gramajo allegedly shot at the vehicle, seriously wounding the victim. The driver and another passenger in the vehicle drove to Windward Way, where they left the shooting victim in the street, police said.
Witnesses to the shooting then called police.
Police believed Gramajo may have fled to another country, but after the phone call Sunday, Officer Michael Garrison drove to where Gramajo’s mother lived.
Garrison saw a man at 3528 Kerner Blvd. who resembled the man described by the phone caller. When the officer contacted the man he walked away, but he was identified as Gramajo by Sgt. Scott Eberle of the department’s street crimes unit.
Gramajo was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. During an interview at the Police Department, he allegedly acknowledged he may have participated in the shooting, police said.
