SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) —- A motorcyclist who allegedly struck and injured an 8-year-old girl in the Mission District Saturday pleaded not guilty today to charges including felony DUI and hit and run.

Nelson Burgos, a 49-year-old San Francisco resident, was arraigned today in San Francisco Superior Court on felony DUI and DUI causing injury, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving causing injury. He also

faces infractions including driving without a license, failing to stop before a crosswalk, driving at an unsafe speed and failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Burgos was arrested Saturday afternoon after he allegedly ran a stop sign at 25th and Folsom Streets at 4:22 p.m., striking a girl in the crosswalk.

Prosecutors today said that the girl has come out of a coma but remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Deputy Public Defender Ariana Downing said Burgos, who appeared in court today wearing a neck brace, has prior convictions from 1999 for firearms possession and from 2004 for reckless driving. Prosecutors noted that he also had a 2012 DUI arrest that did not result in a conviction.

Judge Charles Crompton granted Burgos supervised release, with the condition that he consume no alcohol and wear a monitoring bracelet.
