Surveillance Video: Antioch hate crime suspect caught on camera

(KRON) — The Antioch Police Department has released video of the suspect that tossed a Molotov cocktail at an Antioch home early Wednesday morning.

The person is also suspected of spray painting racist graffiti on the house.

The video from the surveillance camera is not very good and police admit identifying the suspect will be difficult.

On Thursday, Antioch city leaders condemned the person caught in the video writing racist graffiti on a home.

Police said the video was taken at around 3 a.m. Wednesday outside a home on McMormick Ct. It shows a man standing on the sidewalk lighting what appear to be three Molotov cocktails.

He then throws the bottles at the house and runs off.

The three adults and four children inside the home heard the commotion and were able to put out the flames with the help of the fire department. Nobody was injured.

The assailant also is believed to have spray painted several racial slurs and Swastikas on the house.

“We are here to take a stand as a city, as a city council, against the horrendous that occurred in the city of Antioch,” Antioch mayor Wade Harper said.

On Thursday, Harper, along with several city leaders, denounced the attack, saying that hate crimes will not be tolerated.

“This does not happen in Antioch, and this will not be allowed to happen in the city of Antioch,” Harper said. “I want to be clear about that that our entire city council stands against that, our entire police department, and our entire community stands against that.”

So far, the police department has not identified the man in the surveillance video or named any other suspects in the attack.

The mayor did say on Thursday that solving this crime is a top priority for the city and the police department.
