SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A surfer in distress managed to help himself out of the water off the San Francisco shore Friday morning, a fire department spokesman said.

The San Francisco Fire Department received a call at 8:01 a.m. about a surfer in distress at Kelly Cove off Ocean Beach, spokesman Jonathan Baxter said.

The fire department then sent rescue swimmers and boats to the area.

The rescuers found the man had rescued himself without injury, Baxter said.

A high surf advisory is in effect until 3 p.m. Saturday for Ocean Beach, Bodega Rock near Campbell Cove, Maverick’s outside of Half Moon Bay and Ghost Trees off of Pebble Beach, according to the National Weather Service.
