SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Move over, East Coast. While locals in most other cities would take delight under the spotlight of the Super Bowl, here in the Bay Area, it’s difficult to get excited about a title bout if we’re not in the fight.

Only a few months ago, over a million locals clad in “NBA Champions” hats and shirts, and tossing blue and gold confetti, packed Oakland’s streets to congratulate the Golden State Warriors’ 2014-15 championship.

And — weeks before the Dubs’ miles long block party — a steady stream of black and orange ticker tape rained down on San Francisco as Giants’ fans lined the parade route to welcome the team’s third World Series trophy in five years.

Titletown? Why not?

Seems bold to declare the Bay Area as the “home of champions” but the hardware speaks for itself.

The San Francisco 49ers have five Vince Lombardi trophies, one short of the record held by the Pittsburgh “Titletown” Steelers. The Raiders have three in their trophy cabinet.

We have championships in Santa Cruz where the Warriors of NBA’s D-league have won four titles.

If the Warriors go on to make it back-to-back championships this year, I’m submitting our legal name change documents.

We are “Titletown.”
