A new study is crediting a police strategy for reducing gun violence in Oakland.
Researchers say “Operation Ceasefire” has resulted in a 32-percent drop in gun homicides and a 43-percent decrease in gang-involved shootings.
The project was launched back in 2012.
“Operate Ceasefire” is a strategy where police, prosecutors, community leaders, and service providers all meet with reputed gang members.
They offer support and tell them the gun violence must stop.
