SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A new study suggests that minority drivers in California are being targeted by police.

It is racial profiling plain and simple, according to the results of the study conducted by the Committee for Civil Rights of the Bay Area. Black and Hispanic drivers in California are more likely to be pulled over and more likely to be arrested or have their licenses suspended after being pulled over, the report said.

This happens despite no noticeable difference in driving behavior, according to a lawyer for the civil rights group.

In San Francisco, for instance, the population is about 6 percent black and black people accounted for almost half of all arrests for driving with a suspended license, the report said.

The authors used information from the DMV, police departments, and the census.
