(KRON) — The average college student’s stress may come from papers and exams, but a disturbing first of its kind study shows some Cal State students are worrying about where to sleep, or even if they have enough to eat.

One in 10 Cal State University students is homeless, and 1 in 5 does not know where their next meal will come from.

That is what a study commissioned by the school system reports. CSU schools intend to use this information to find out if they are serving the needs of those students who are food insecure or have nowhere to live.

Considering the high cost of living in the Bay Area, local Cal State students said they were not surprised by the findings and understand there are resources available.

Cal State University officials met in Long Beach this week to discuss ways to alleviate this issue.

There are programs already in place such as loans available to students who attend Cal State schools.
