VALLEJO (KRON) — Students and parents gathered in front of Jesse Bethel High School in Vallejo Monday morning, unhappy about recent violence near the school.
On Thursday, student Max Rusk was murdered and the day before that, several other students were held up at gunpoint.
That recent violence has parents and students demanding for change. Rusk’s mother, Jaime Rusk echoed those feelings, saying “we do not want to see anyone else hurt. The school is not doing anything to protect these students.
The family of a teen robbed in the same place Rusk was killed said that they have tried to talk with school officials about their safety concerns, but they got no response.
KRON 4 also tried to talk to officials with the school or district. The assistant superintendent said that nobody was available to talk on Monday.
What the district did do was to call the police on the family of Max Rusk, saying they were concerned about a possible disturbance unfolding at the district office. That upset Rusk’s father, James Busch who said, “they won’t talk, but they will call the police?”
Administrators did tell KRON 4 that they are working with police, but did not expand on that.
